We are proud to announce the HRM was awarded a prestigious matching grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) “Museums for America”! The Hudson River Museum is one of 122 projects nationwide that were funded through this year’s Museums for America program. The $125,000 grant will support the Museum’s digitization of approximately 8,000 collection objects largely consisting of historical photographs representative of the Museum’s local and regional communities. As part of this grant, Anna Jacobson was hired in March 2024 as a Digitization Technician. HRM Director & CEO Masha Turchinsky stated, “Collection digitization is a crucial aspect of a museum’s sustainability. We are grateful to the IMLS for this generous grant that will enable the Hudson River Museum to strengthen our technology infrastructure and build our archival online resources. This project will help us build stronger, better informed, and more engaged communities in our region, which are critical for a more effective democracy.” Read the press release at hrm.org/press #IMLS #InstituteofMuseumandLibrarySciences #HudsonRiverMuseum #MuseumAnnouncement #MuseumDigitization #Archive #MuseumArchive #TeamHRM

Thanks to all who came to the HRM yesterday for our Super Solar Eclipse Viewing Party! It was an amazing and joyous occasion and we were honored to host our community to celebrate this truly awe-inspiring event. Together, we felt the air chill and the sky darken as we experienced 91% eclipse coverage. More than 500 people gathered in the #HRMCourtyard to look through our solar telescopes, learn about the progress and science behind the eclipse, take photos in front of our eclipse backdrop, and much more. A huge thanks to all who pitched in to make it a successful event, including our #HRMstaff, HRM Junior Docents, and volunteer docents. Stay tuned for more photos at hrm.org/eclipse This project is supported by a Market New York grant awarded to Hudson River Museum from Empire State Development and I LOVE NY/New York State's Division of Tourism through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative. “Meet Me at the River” opens to the public tomorrow, Friday, March 22! The Hudson River has long served as a space to gather and take pleasure in the natural world. In this new exhibition in the Community & Partnership Gallery, archival and fine-art photographs from the #HRMCollections, including 19th-century portraits from Palisade Boat Club, document how community members past and present have turned to the water for a joyful day out. These photographs are paired with new work by photographer Andrew Kung from his ongoing series “Dreaming on the Hudson.” Inspired by Hudson River School artists’ romantic depictions of the landscape, Kung stages his subjects in pastoral settings to investigate themes of masculinity and land stewardship. Through careful, sunlit compositions, he transforms images of soccer matches and picnics into radically tender scenes of friendship and belonging. Meet Me at the River is co-curated by Karintha Lowe, HRM’s Mellon Public Humanities Fellow, and Christopher Fosina, Collection Assistant. Learn more at hrm.org/meet-me Significant support is provided by the New York State Senate and Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. This exhibition is made possible by Sarah Lawrence College through a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation Additional assistance for HRM exhibitions is provided by Westchester County #HRMRiver #HudsonRiver #Landscape #AndrewKung #PalisadeBoatClub #Photography #Rivers Image: Andrew Kung (American, b. 1991). “Skipping Rocks,” 2022.
