Her Honor mentees were welcomed into the women-owned law offices of Fullerton Beck LLP yesterday, hearing first hand about various roles in a law firm, with each presenter sharing what she wished she had known as a 17 year old. Mentees learned from Katrine Aliha Beck about being a business owner, and Katrine's former mentee Jeba Karim (HHM Class of 2021-22) shared important insights from her college experience. We believe that connecting strong, positive, female role models with young women doesn't just change one thing … it changes EVERYTHING! Our mission at Her Honor Mentoring is to provide unique learning opportunities and resources for young women. Mentoring is our tool to bridge education and employment gaps. We connect the needs of our public education system with powerful resources in the business community. Her Honor Mentoring was developed by Nicole Sheindlin and Judith Sheindlin, as an innovative and pragmatic way to boost self-confidence in young women in the workplace and everyday life. Our Mentoring Model Her Honor 2.0 is a fresh approach to helping young women reach their full potential. The cornerstone of the approach is connecting mentees with dynamic mentors across a spectrum of industries. During weekly online meetings, mentoring pairs explore topics related to education, career, and financial literacy. Mentees, who are the first in their family to pursue higher education and eager for support along the way, gain valuable knowledge, critical 21st-century workforce skills, and the seeds of a robust professional network. The wisdom and experience of our mentors elevate this mentoring experience, helping mentees synthesize and apply information to their own lives. Mentoring is our innovative way of bridging education gaps with local business resources. Mentors and their companies embrace our mission that investing in young women is a critical component to building healthy, equitable, and resilient communities.

Her Honor is proud of our partnership with United Health Services and Binghamton High School and inspired by the mentoring relationships we foster between young women and exceptional professionals. This is my 3rd school year volunteering with Her Honor Mentoring thanks to Mastercard. Each of the young women I’ve mentored has been night/day different in academic pursuits + hobbies. Their commonality, an unwavering desire to attend university even though the financial burden is a heavy, if not impossible, sacrifice for their family. Every week I tell my mentee she has what it takes not only to continue her education but to have/do/be anything she desires. As I enthusiastically support on the outside, inside I anxiously worry about the obstacles she'll face and the odds stacked against her. Her Honor gives her a grant (which she'd like to spend on a prom dress or senior trip 😉) and we talk all things financial literacy and saving for expenses to come. Sometimes this experience feels heavy on my heart, but ultimately, it's so rewarding for my soul. Really the THANK YOU goes to people/programs who work tirelessly to make higher education more affordable and accessible for our {beyond} deserving youth.
