Activities and Societies: Volunteered in FLY - Financial Literacy for Youth Project with Baruch High School students, where they were introduced to real life gamified personal budget strategies. Volunteered as an advisor, mentor and career counselor to women and immigrants on financial basics, including credit history, building credit, banking and paycheck taxes. I advised them on career paths and what's the easiest and quickest way to start earning and keep going after your other aspirations at the same time.

City University of New York - Baruch College --Zicklin School of Business.

Masters in Business Administration is a comprehensive program that is pretty much uniform around the world: AACSB accredits programs that are allowed to issue the MBA degree.

While others specialized in accounting, marketing, HR or computer science, I chose to specialize in taxation. And I was right: I got to take some super advanced tax courses like International tax, Deferred Compensation and Trust and Estate tax. As a CPA I use this knowledge daily working with clients to help them structure their compensation using retirement options as well as design their overall tax strategy including exit.

Activities and Societies: While at Hunter I worked as a bookkeeper for 4-5 businesses at the same time (a day a week for one, 2 days for another), while taking on a 4-5 course load. I was motivated to finish up before NYS changed the CPA requirements in 2009, so I pushed hard. I got really good at time management and prioritizing, and was active at the Accounting Society, incl. VITA (volunteer income tax assistance) and Hunter Hillel. I was on Dean's List 5 semesters & got the 2009 award for excellence in accounting.

Hunter College has been crucial for my career and life. Initially I wanted to be a lawyer and viewed my undergrad degree as a stepping stone toward that. While in college, I had to support myself financially - my parents were far away in another country (Belarus) and I had nobody in the US.

So I decided to major in Accounting: accounting is a skill and I used it to support myself through college. And every professor said every class "since you're majoring in accounting, you might as…

So I decided to major in Accounting: accounting is a skill and I used it to support myself through college. And every professor said every class "since you're majoring in accounting, you might as well sit for the CPA exam" and I thought "Ha! I might as well...". And I did. And somewhere along the way I fell in LOVE with accounting and business, and to this day I am grateful for each and every professor that made a huge impact (Stephani Mason and Avi Liveson are forever my fave).

Activities and Societies: While studying in law school, I wanted to see what it's like to work for an intense American company so I found a job at McDonalds of all places. I would do a night shift, go to school, go back to work. It was fun and my young health could do it. Not anymore!

Ever since I was 13-14 and my dad's friend came to visit us and talked about his work (he was a lawyer) it was my dream to become a lawyer. I've watched Law & Order (translated) back in Minsk since then. I loved Mr McCoy and the detectives - it was fun and interesting.

I was so impressed that I did not choose anything else: I wanted to go and study law and I did, for 2 years (it is a 5 years law-only degree, no liberal arts or any wiggle room, just pure law). And then I came to the US…

I was so impressed that I did not choose anything else: I wanted to go and study law and I did, for 2 years (it is a 5 years law-only degree, no liberal arts or any wiggle room, just pure law). And then I came to the US that summer of 2003.

Coincidentally, when I arrived in New York in June 2003, our sponsor had us spend a night in NYC to receive guidance and information. And interestingly enough, it was in the Columbia University dorms! That evening I went for a walk and found myself standing across the street from Columbia Law School and thought "one day I will go here".

I never did - but the thought of pursuing law does not let me go, even 20 years later! Maybe one day...

Activities and Societies: Since I was a kid, I couldn't sit still. If it were today and in the US, I'd probably be medicated for ADHD. But I see my never-diagnosed ADHD as a gift of life. Here is what I mean. > I got a massage therapist certificate when I was in 10th grade > I took Silva Mind Control method course when I was fifteen and have used Silva meditation since then (25 years!) to support myself and to become my own core > I graduated with As and Bs because I was embarrassed to have straight As.

This school was very unique and special: from the first grade we learned a 2nd language - English. Overall I had about 8-10 hours of English per week! Because of that I was able to adapt quicker and easier to the United States English - I had all the grammar and the tenses and some idioms (I still learn some of them and I've been in the US for 20 years!)

This school gave me an ability to defend myself during my first year or two in America (I got into an abusive relationship and couldn't…

This school gave me an ability to defend myself during my first year or two in America (I got into an abusive relationship and couldn't get out for a year). It gave me an ability to SPEAK and I did.

Around 8th grade, I elected math specialization and had 8-10 hours a week of math, too. It was intense. But that intense work allowed me to be who I am today. I met some of the most amazing teachers, like Marina Zinovievna and Svetlana Yuryevna and they've made a huge impact on my life and career.

I prepared and reviewed tax returns for low-income taxpayers and helped them get their taxes done timely and correctly. It was a very rewarding experience and gave me the foundation of tax work I later brought to work.

I graduated in January 2009, when all accounting firms were on a hiring freeze. I continued with my bookkeeping clients and by the end of that year I was hired but a small cute accounting firm, where I got hands on experience in tax on day 1. And VITA was one of the…

    I hold WORKSHOPS:
    1. We teach these groups about these financial basics, money and business
    2. We show them how to navigate the complex world of paychecks with tax deductions and health insurance and so much more.
    3. Many want to start a business as entrepreneurs.
    4. We go over the prerequisites need to start a business.
    5. We break it up, just like Arthur Murray dance lessons, into simple steps so the complexities of business can master in small steps/nuggets
    6. We can support them during their most critical time—the beginning.

A part of what I do is also teach SKILLS. I believe that degrees and certificates only matter to the extent you can make a living with them. If you cannot - they are useless. A big skill is accounting and bookkeeping: it's fairly flexible task that has no true emergencies, while providing a very decent living on your terms. So I built a course to train bookkeepers and have tested it on teens: and it works!

My goal for this organization is to fundraise for scholarships, sponsor –immigrants, women, single moms, teens finishing high school as they are entering a "new" life.

  • YEAR-END MOVES TO KEEP MORE OF YOUR MONEY, SPEAKER! GUEST POST BY TATIANA TSOIR

    National Speakers Association

Entrepreneurs, and especially, speakers are often underserved by the DIY mentality and the seeming abundance of free information. Free information is free, but the cost of it to you is really high.

For example, starting to worry about taxes in March is a huge disservice to you. Once the year is over your options are down to very few – mostly tax deferral vs. actual lowering of your taxes.

As cliché as this may sound, knowledge is power.

For example, starting to worry about taxes in March is a huge disservice to you. Once the year is over your options are down to very few – mostly tax deferral vs. actual lowering of your taxes.

As cliché as this may sound, knowledge is power.

If you know how much income you brought in so far and how much you have in deductible business expenses, i.e. your travel costs, cost of clothing and makeup for your speaking engagements, you know whether or not you have the tax money available. And if not – you have 4-6 months to make that money.

But, most importantly, you can actually do something to bring that number down, proactively, before it’s too late.
